Das Netfilter-Projekt wehrt sich mit Ratschlägen In Form von FAQ [8] gegen die Durchsetzung von wirklichen oder vermeintlichen GPL-Verletzungen durch den ehemaligen Maintainer Patrick McHardy. Dabei vertreten die Projekt-Mitglieder keineswegs die Auffassung, dass Entwickler nicht gegen GPL-Verletzungen vorgehen sollen, sondern versuchen, als missbräuchlich empfundene Auswüchse einzudämmen.
